Even though the temperatures are up we are still keeping golfers off the course. Many of you want to know what's holding things up? Although the frost is gone from the surface and even 12 inches down, the water is perched above the frozen soil below that. This creates a layer of soft mushy soil. When traffic (foot or cart) presses down on this soil the neighboring soil is pushed up. This also creates a tighter pore space in the soil compressed which will make it harder for the soil to "breathe" during the coming summer months. As a result that soil will be more susceptable to more diseases and stresses. It also creates a bumpier surface that is hard to smooth out. With this in mind we are choosing to err on the side of protecting the greens. I know it's frustrating right now but we hope you appreciate it during the season.

There have been several questions about what is the original 9 holes. These holes 1,2,8,9,10,11,12,17 and 18 are the 9 holes opened in the early 70's. Although at that time you played the holes inverted. It went (present) 10,11,12,17,18,1,2,8 and,9.
The 18th hole was also a par 3 at that time, with the tee being even with the barn which later was shortened to accommodate the new tee and pond. In the mid 80's the other 9 was opened and routing changed to return each 9 to the clubhouse. We will open 9 holes (original 9) on Wednesday February 14th. The temeratures are supposed to rise the next few days so come on out to play. As conditions change often at this time of year, please check for updates on our facebook page. Facebook.com/airwaysgolf
Due to snow cover and frigid temperatures the hangover scramble has been cancelled for 2018
Hopefully things will improve and we will be able to reopen for winter golf. Keep an eye on our Facebook page Airways Golf for most up to date information. Time to plan for the annual Hangover Scramble!
This event is a fun day of golf held each year weather permitting. Get your foursome together or give us your name and number and we will try to put you on a team. Please remember to leave us a contact name and number in the event weather prevails. Members and regular Airways players get priority if it fills up but there is usually room for some groups. After members it is first signed up priority. Please call the Golf desk at 860-668-4973 to get your name on the list! The food bank and customer appreciation scrambles are held for our season members, associate members, their guests and invited regular players.
On food bank day you are asked to bring non-perishable items for our local food banks. Items are still accepted on customer appreciation day. These days feature an 18 hole scramble, door prize raffle and buffet picnic. These days are minimal cost to attenders to show our appreciation for their support through the season. This is fun day of fellowship with your fellow golfers. Please sign up at the golf counter to insure your participation. Space is limited so chose your day and sign up early. We hope everyone enjoys these days!!! For the next few weeks we'll be posting pictures of the construction of the 15th green back in 2000 on our facebook page. Keep an eye out to see the progress. This week shows material being put on, spread, irrigation installation ammendments added and grading. This weekend we anticipate wet conditions following Fridays rain. Please be aware of cart restrictions that will probably be in effect. The golf desk should be able to let you know when and if restrictions are in force so you can plan accordingly. If by some chance we are able to avoid restrictions please be aware that the course will still be very wet and we would appreciate your attempts to skirt wet areas and hillsides. When in doubt please err on the side of caution. All golfers benefit when courteous use of carts is followed. That being said also be ready to lift clean and place if you happen to land in a rut or other muddy area. Remember we are out here to enjoy this game not punish ourselves for mother natures follies or someone else's foolish mistake with a cart. I hope you all have a great weekend and see you on the course.
